The Square Bang Unico by Hublot is Audaciously Awesome

You're so square, baby, I don't care.

Well, if you are a watch enthusiast, you will undoubtedly care about the new SQUARE introduced by luxury watchmaker Hublot at the watch industry's largest trade expo, Watches and Wonders. It is AWESOME.

Swiss luxury watchmaker Hublot has unveiled its own rendition of the square watch with the Square Bang Unico, a collection of five new models based on the Maison's classic Big Bang watch.

The five 42 mm variants are available in solid titanium, black ceramic, or King Gold, as well as a titanium or King Gold alloy with a black ceramic bezel. 

Each model comes with a black rubber strap and a matching folding clasp. These unique designs pulse to the beat of the HUB1280 Unico Manufacture movement, a 354-part automatic chronograph set at 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour).

How was Hublot able to elegantly integrate its round in-house Unico movement into a square case?

It is visible from both sides of the 42mm casing, creating an attractive sense of proportion. The chronograph has a visible column wheel at 6 o'clock, while its bicompax display eliminates the need for a dial, revealing the chronograph's hidden inner workings. 

The dial's "sandwich" structure lends the new Square Bang models an air of depth, almost like a three-dimensional architectural model.

The six (functional) screws on the bezel are positioned identically to those on the Big Bang. On each side of the Square Bang are the 'ears' from the Big Bang's casing, which serve to balance the design while also protecting the case. 

Along with the much-loved One Click mechanism and textured rubber on the strap, the two screws are placed in the centre as an attachment.
