Panigale V4 SP2
Ducati has introduced the much anticipated Panigale V4 SP2, the manufacturer's new flagship supersports motorbike. The Panigale V4 SP2 made its world premiere at the 2022 model year's last World Premiere event. The limited-edition model follows Ducati's Panigale V4 SP, which made its debut in 2020 with track-focused components and performance. Ducati has further improved the package with the new SP2, adding a number of upgrades aimed at extracting even more tarmac-ripping performance on the race track.
The Panigale V4 SP2 is Ducati's top-of-the-line supersports bike: a unique, thrilling numbered-version designed for track riding that is even more intuitive and less stressful for non-professional riders.
Livery
The Panigale V4 SP2 is distinguished by its unique "Winter Test" livery, which contrasts the matt black of the fairings with the matt carbon finish of the rims and wings, as well as the brightness of the exposed brushed aluminium tank. The 1,103 cc Desmosedici Stradale engine from MotoGP, carbon fibre rims, Brembo Stylema R® brake callipers, MCS radial master cylinder, dry clutch, 520 chain, billet footpegs, and a track-specific kit: the "SP" technical specifications maximise the Panigale V4's racing characteristics and complement all of the improvements made to the 2022 version.
The Heart
The Panigale V4 SP2 is powered by a 1,103 cc Desmosedici Stradale engine from MotoGP: a V4 with a counter-rotating crankshaft that produces enough of torque at low rpm and is capable of expressing the bike's racing personality on the track. For 2022, the Desmosedici Stradale has been enhanced with the addition of specific technological features that have allowed for increased power and throttle responsiveness. The Euro 5 engine produces 215.5 horsepower @ 13,000 rpm.
The Chassis
The Panigale V4 SP2's chassis has an aluminium front frame that is strained by the Desmosedici Stradale. The swingarm is made of aluminium, as is the seat post, which is made of shell-cast aluminium. The swingarm pivot is positioned to maximise the anti-squat effect, which is the decrease of rear sinking while leaving bends and closing the throttle, therefore stabilising the bike during acceleration. At the front, an electronically controlled hlins NPX25 / 30 pressurised fork with 125 mm travel utilises a pressurised cartridge damping technology borrowed from racing forks.
Carbon Wheels
To further improve the Panigale V4's track performance and dynamic attributes, the "SP2" variant has high-quality 5-split spoke carbon wheels that are 1.4 kg lighter than the Panigale V4 S's aluminium forged wheels.
The carbon rims* provide a large decrease in inertia (-26% at the front, -46% at the rear), resulting in increased agility, lightness during direction changes, and ease of closing bends. Additionally, the Panigale V4 SP2 is fitted with Brembo Stylema R® front brake callipers, which provide excellent braking performance.
The Ducati Panigale V4 SP2 will be limited to 1000 units and will be available for presale in mid-2022 at a price of USD 39,500.
