Danish audio brand Bang & Olufsen recently introduced Beosound Theatre, an unique and precisely constructed high-end soundbar that provides the power of a multi-product home theatre, all in a single unit.
"Beosound Theatre totally reinvents home cinematic sound. "With its strong sound, innovative technological platform, and modular design, we bring the immersion of a multi-speaker configuration into a single soundbar that fits effortlessly with any screen," said Bang & Olufsen CEO Kristian Tear and continued:
"With Beosound Theatre, we unlock the full potential of the high-quality streaming services presently accessible to consumers and bring the movie experience into the house. This stunning soundbar is meant to survive for decades thanks to its modular construction, which enables you to upgrade rather than replace it.
A full cinema in one magnificent soundbar
Beosound Theatre has 12 speaker drivers, including two custom-made long stroke 6.5" woofers, 800 watts of amplification power, and up to 112dB sound pressure level to produce a powerful and immersive movie experience. The custom-made centre channel manages speech clarity by mounting the tweeter immediately in front of the midrange. The alignment of these drivers improves sound dispersion, so enhancing the audio quality for everyone in the room, while the directivity has been optimised for voice clarity.
Based on the Beam Width and Beam Direction Control developed for Bang & Olufsen's flagship Beolab 90 speakers, Beosound Theatre delivers a unique three-dimensional sound directivity by combining direct-, side-, and upward-firing speakers. This indicates that all loudspeaker drivers collaborate not just to create sound, but also to regulate its beam width and direction.
"We first designed the Beam Width and Beam Directivity Control for Beolab 90 to minimise sidewall reflections at the listening location." Essentially, to make the barriers vanish. Jakob Dyreby, a senior technology specialist, said, "In Beosound Theatre, we use technology to route sound away from the audience, which improves the impression of space and provides a far more immersive experience."
Bang & Olufsen television experience optimised for almost every screen
Bang & Olufsen is well recognised for its distinctive approach to workmanship and design. Based on the principles of modularity, consumers can quickly change the soundbar into a wall-mounted or floor-standing Bang & Olufsen TV experience, so it fits in seamlessly and doesn't take up more room than their current TV*.
The modular design philosophy also extends to the removable television panels and soundbar cover. The extendability of the aluminium "wings" for clients whose TV displays increase when they are upgraded demonstrates that Beosound Theatre continues to provide precisely integrated solutions with better longevity**.
"Because we understand that our consumers want to invest in long-lasting goods, Beosound Theatre has been modularly constructed to outlive many televisions in its lifespan. Mads Kogaard Hansen, Head of Product Circularity, said, "We have created a system that allows you to upgrade your product rather than replace it, and a product that can develop with you through time." He proceeded:
"The Beosound Theatre interface bracket allows practically any screen to be docked to the soundbar. This implies that individuals do not need to purchase a new television and may instead pick what they feel to be the greatest television option."
The motorised interface bracket creates a smooth connection between the TV stand and the screen. The mount has a chamber to conceal smart TV boxes and unnecessary wires, allowing the television to appear as a single, streamlined unit.
From soundbar to audio system
Although Beosound Theatre is a strong all-in-one solution, it may expand into a dedicated sound centre, allowing you to design a home theatre with new possibilities. Starting with seven internal outputs and supporting up to 16 external loudspeakers, it may serve as the centrepiece of a Dolby Atmos 7.1.4 surround system. In this configuration, Beosound Theatre serves as the centre speaker, combining Dolby Atmos decoding and custom-tuned post-processing with Bang & Olufsen's patented True Image algorithm to enhance the performance of all Bang & Olufsen loudspeakers.
In addition, Beosound Theatre is equipped with an innovative bass control technology. Whereas most systems merely transmit the bass to the loudspeaker with the strongest power, often the subwoofer, Beosound Theatre employs all Bang & Olufsen loudspeakers as a unified unit. This not only maximises the capacity of the complete system, but it also helps to manage the resonance in your listening space, ensuring that the different loudspeakers work together and not against one another.
"You may purchase Beosound Theatre as a soundbar and then add a pair of back loudspeakers, such as Beolab 28, to create a triangle arrangement that gives outstanding spatial sound performance, while maintaining the overall goal of minimum items, clutter, and compromise in your area. You just need to link them. This also means that our clients are not constrained by their original purchase choice, which helps us prolong the lifespan of Beosound Theatre and improve the chance of numerous ownerships, according to Senior Technology Specialist Jakob Dyreby.
Motivated by the elegance of sailboats
Beosound Theatre retains the design idea of Bang & Olufsen's most popular devices, such as the Beolab 8000, Beolab 18, and Beolab 28, which centred on making a large volume seem to be balanced on a pinpoint.
Beosound Theatre's keel-like construction gives the impression that it is resting on an aluminium blade and floats in the air as a single, flowing form, evoking the easy beauty of sailboats.
This illusion was skillfully crafted in Bang & Olufsen's Factory 5 in Struer, Denmark, using aluminium. The middle-extruded aluminium profile was polished and anodized with two end caps that were fashioned into a curved shape and divided into four end caps. This allows the product's curving edge to easily integrate with the soundbar's flat shape, resulting in a single, cohesive piece.
The solid wood lamella cover is manufactured by a family-owned firm in Denmark and ideally complements Bang & Olufsen's Beolab speaker lineup, including the Beolab 18, Beolab 28, and Beolab 50. The design of the lamellas, which clip into place as opposed to being bonded, allows them to be readily dismantled or changed, while the fabric version is intended to be a visually softer option that will easily merge into any interior environment.
Simple installation using new room sense technology
Beosound Theatre includes Roomsense, Bang & Olufsen's revolutionary setup technology. Beosound Theatre will work with the Bang & Olufsen App to measure the distance between the listener and the soundbar by deploying an external microphone at the listening location. In addition, it will assign a function to each speaker depending on its location, perform sound compensation for each speaker whether it is positioned freestanding, against a wall, or in a corner, and compensate the room as a whole to prevent undesired resonance.
"With Roomsense, anybody can create the ideal arrangement in few seconds. Moreover, it provides for a variety of speaker positions, allowing individuals to design their houses as they see fit, rather than dependent on the traditional speaker arrangement, as Jakob Dyreby said.
Next generation listening - for future generations
Not only does Beosound Theatre honour Bang & Olufsen's legacy products with its timeless design language, but the soundbar also includes Bang & Olufsen's own proprietary software platform called "Mozart," which continues the legacy of ensuring that the soundbar can connect seamlessly with products as far back as 1986, thereby creating a cross-generational home audio setup.
"Products like as the Beolab 6000 and Beolab 8000 column speakers are adored by design enthusiasts throughout the globe, and we've ensured that they're compatible with Beosound Theatre out of the box. Simply link them," said Chief Design Officer Miklu Silvanto.
The Mozart platform not only honours the past, but also predicts the future. Because the platform is packed with processing power and memory, Bang & Olufsen can add new features, capabilities, and connections over time to offer a smooth experience with today's and tomorrow's home audio settings.
