Plus Size Flying Off From Runways to Racks of These Fancy Labels

When you get the front row tickets to a fashion show, you are always saddled with uncertainty of the fashion week. Every season is better than the last in so many ways. In a way these milestones make history for the company. What is normal now would have been considered revolutionary and rebellious 20 years ago. Designers have faced the challenge of creating new designs every season and putting on the best show ever by the eyes that scrutinize their position in the industry. Especially the tabloids that constantly criticize your every move. Fashion week used to be for the elite crowd to see and for masses to drool over even if they weren’t invited. They were the ultimate outsiders who worshipped designers. Brands have always served people with class and the money of course. But little did they know that the masses revolutionize.
Ultimately the show they put on every season is shared by millions and they all have an opinion now. Racial diversity, body inclusivity have been amongst the several issues the outsiders had with fashion week in particular. Although racial diversity is an issue in the past, body inclusivity is somewhat finding its way on the runway. But as we all know runway does not like changes!
In 2013 Eden Miller made an entire collection of plus size clothes for her line with Cabiria. But truth be told it led to nothing. The mannequins stayed at size 7. But now the reign is in the hands of GenZ. They support inclusivity even if they are not themselves plus sized. The mentality eventually kicks in to all the consumers.
Dolce & Gabbana became the first luxury brand to offer ready to wear clothes In plus sizes at its retail outlets. The response has been extremely positive from the consumers and they increased it till size US 18 after. Many brands have started following their footsteps. Pandemic hit the clothing retail sector really bad. They eventually had to shift to an online presence. Recession did not help several of these brands as well. The only solution they sought after is by including plus sizes in their collection. The goal was to create a product for the untapped sector of the society. So far labels like Mary Katrantzou and Diane von Furstenberg. Carolina Herrera, Christian Siriano, Adam Lippes have been found selling their collection in plus size on 11 Honoré. Even Donatella Versace says she is considering extending their sizes at Versace. “I can only speak for Versace of course, and I can say that you will see more size inclusion,” Donatella Versace.
Fast fashion brands like H& M have their racks all sold out in the plus size segment. This only shows how late they are in including a whole sector of untapped consumers. Well its safe to say that many more labels will consider moving along with the society and be open to all.
