Our Favorite Highlights from Lakme Fashion Week 2020

In this year we experienced a new sort of fashion weeks without any hurly- burly of the event. The excitement to watch a new collection launched straight from our couch and live streaming it without any stress of having the front row seats. This edition of Lakmé Fashion Week 2020, represents the times in which we live with virtual catwalks, podcasts and webinars.

This season ended very well with a finale between labels Rimzim Dadu and Saaksha & Kinni, regardless of few tech glitches. This runway made us feel like it was a reality but with next level movies, all-inclusive gallery and an interactive platform to try out beauty looks and of course the collection that was such a treat to the eyes. This bridged the gap between the digital and the physical. With beautiful ensembles and fashion films here are the highlights of the designers who showcased their talent at Lame Fashion Week 2020.

Manish Malhotra

Manish Malhotra posed Ruhaaniyat with the fashion actor Kartik Aaryan as muse at the stylish start of the Lakmé Fashion Week. The collection honored Indian Artisans and craftsmen in its ten year association with the Mijwan Foundation. The collection was an opulent amalgamation of old- world elegance and craftsmanship with three- layered ensembles, rich fabrics of pure cotton, silk, velvets and Mashru, in hues of silver, pistachio green, dusky pink, grey, maroon, black and white. Gaurang Shah

Gaurang Shah’s Taramati showcase was a set of 30 carefully crafted sarees, which brought you back to the Golconda Period. The elegant weaves featured Ikat, floral motifs and Parsi gala work made using a mixture of textile with beige, green, wine, yellow, pink and purple colors. Pankaj and Nidhi

Their collection was a versatile combination of ensembles fitted for wear, loungewear and holiday wear. The use of color blockage and abstract prints has increased clothes using sustainable fabrics made if 100% recycled PET bottles in four hues, sandy peach, dusty pink, pecan brown and earthy blue. Péro

Their collection was inspired by the Harajuku culture of Kawai’s Japanese street style, Péro by Aneeth Arora’s latest love collection has brought us childhood waves, dollhouse nostalgia and he present lockdown mood is perfectly embodied, seen with an esthetically visual delightful fashion video, the collection focuses on a pastel hue like gingham, wide stripes, laced, flowers and ribbons. Mishru

Swapna Anumolu’s Mishru launchs a new collection, which is appropriately dubbed The Lost Summer, featuring vivid summer tones with shades of pinks, blues and ivories. The line is distinguished by a number of silhouettes including pre-draped sarees and flowing lehengas, asymmetrical tunics and floating capes along with Indo Fusion sets. Amit Aggarwal

Amit Aggarwal, a fashion film called First Light, took us on a trip through cosmos. The designer ethereal collection was based on the celestial elegance of the organic Indian chanderi and matha silk in hues of Venus violet, Gamma green and Earthy plum, illuminated by metallic accents. The elegant collection is ideal for the coming festive season with fluid silhouettes that contain swirling lehengas and sarees using leheriya. Sukriti and Aakriti

The designer Sukriti and Aakriti introduced the festive collection as the core element of their neo- phulkari work with Radhika Madan and Aparshakti Khurana as performers from Bollywood. Fluid silhouettes such as gharara, flaming robes and swirling skirts, provided the ensembles with natural gota work to give the age old Punjabi phulkari technique a contemporary feel. Malai

In partnership with Elan Fashion for Earth and the United Nations Environment Program of Reliance Industries Ltd the winners of the Circular Design Challenge and sustainable brands represents its collection. The trendy brand ensembles featured cyanotype prints, graphics tees and Malai appliqué work in mundu cloth, with the use of bio-composite material from bacterial cellulose grown from mature coconuts and natural fibers on water. Jayanti Reddy

An ode to the red color, Jayanti Reddy’s red, all gave the traditional color of Indian bridal wear a modern look. The blinding lines of the assemblies was highlighted by brilliant embellishments created in chanderi, satin and silk textiles.
