How German Interior Brand Plusch Contributed To A 25 Crore Turnover

The concept of luxury furniture was fairly new to India in the 1990’s where consumers were still not a very accessible to the idea. The introduction of SIS Imports in 1998 was imperative in changing the perception towards buying luxury furniture in India.

It is the first brand to introduce German luxury products to Indian consumers.

SIS Imports was founded by husband-wife duo Hamendra and Rati Sharma, who were on a trip to Japan when they happen to come across Poggenpohl, which is a renowned German luxury modular kitchen concept.

Thoroughly impressed by the high-quality and design, they decided to introduce the idea of luxury modular kitchens to the Indian market.

In 2015, SIS Imports was rebranded as Plusch which is German for luxurious, redefined and plush. Today it features some of the top German brands such as Gaggenau, Eggersmann, Interlubke and more.

Initially, it was challenging to create a scope for consumption considering the idea of luxury furnishing was never part of the Indian market space.

Founders, Hamendra and Rati Sharma had to work doubly hard and truly expose Indian consumers to the world of German luxury and premium quality to get their business going.

Six months after the company was founded is when they made their first sale.

Since then, there has been no looking back with the company expanding into the furniture and wardrobe space, garnering a highly renowned clientele with celebrities like Sonam Kapoor Ahuja and Shah Rukh Khan being part of the Plusch family.

With an initial investment of INR 25 lakh, the founders were able to get their hands on some of the major appliances and products that were put up at a kitchen design showroom in Mumbai.

Today, after years of being in the business, Plusch has reported an annual turnover of INR 25 crore and continues to be the top company for luxury interiors in India, despite the growing competition.
