During Milan Design Week, which coincides with Salone del Mobile, two new furniture lines were unveiled at the newly established Bentley Home Atelier in Milan. Solstice, Bentley Home's first outdoor furniture line, celebrates the exquisite experience of outdoor living, whilst the 2022 Collection of inside furniture features a combination of distinctive materials, architectural forms, and futuristic compositions. The tight cooperation between the design teams of Bentley Motors and Bentley House is reflected in the use of materials, themes, and forms found in Bentley automobiles, which transfer elegantly to the home.
Solstice Collection - Patio Furnishings
The production of Bentley Home's first outdoor furniture line, Solstice, has been a fascinating and intricate process. Bentley Home designer Carlo Colombo collaborated closely with designers at Bentley Motors to adapt the Bentley design DNA into weather-resistant outdoor furniture items that seem attractive in natural light and outdoor settings.
Each design in the series is customizable with a variety of fabric and covering choices. Velvet, chenille, and satin have been specifically prepared for outdoor usage after extensive investigation into each sumptuous fabric. Those searching for a sustainable fabric choice may also choose the special MARM MORE® fabric, which is created from leftover marble powder. Similarly, Bentley Home clients now have access to the brand-new Colwyn hemp fabric, which comes in three colours - Cool Grey, Laguna, and Desert - for the first time. Hemp is one of the oldest plant fibres, having 6,000-year-old roots. It is well-suited for outdoor living since it is grown without the use of fertilisers and pesticides and can withstand harsh temperature conditions. Colwyn from Bentley Home is subjected to additional anti-static and waterproofing treatments, guaranteeing that dust and rain roll off the fibre without entering it and that it is resistant to atmospheric agents.
The'super-mirror' steel detail is inspired by the front matrix grille of Bentley's contemporary automobile lineup, including the Continental, Bentayga, and Flying Spur models. The term'super-mirror' alludes to the stainless steel's high degree of polish, a stunning and distinctive look produced by the world-class artisans of Bentley Home. Using a complex cutting technology, each individual super-mirror slat is curved to match the contour of the backrests of the Solstice Sofa, Armchair, and Pouf. The exquisite lightness of the super-mirror steel grille accent complements the upholstered leather and fabric parts of the furniture designs.
The Solstice Coffee Table and Side Table both have the super-mirror grille, highlighting its dual construction and aesthetic purpose to the fullest extent. Elegant circular marble tops in Mont Blanc, Silk Brown, or Emerald Green are offered to attractively complete each table.
The Solstice Sunbed is both lightweight and comfy, exemplifying the Bentley Home outdoor lifestyle. This sculpture has been meticulously crafted to achieve a harmonious balance between its size, lines, and textures, making it appropriate for gardens, terraces, and poolside areas.
2022 Indoor Collection - Furniture
During Milan Design Week, Bentley Home unveils a new range of indoor furniture each year. The 2022 Collection is an intriguing combination of precious materials, premium finishes, and customised possibilities. Nature, futuristic architecture, and their interaction inspire the use of bold lines.
The Galloway Sofa, Bench, and Chaise Longue are named for the environment that overlooks the Irish Sea: a natural refuge of dense woodland, gentle slopes, and towering mountains. From the knees to the armrests, strength and fluidity blend in a curved motion. These pieces may be personalised by combining a high or low armrest with a low or high backrest. Warm Grey Fiddleback Sycamore, Smoked Liquidambar, or Burr Walnut Briarroot; glossy, brushed, Degrade Lacquer, or Metal Lacquer finish. The contrast between the soft leather upholstery and the Gun-Metal Grey contour of the furniture is striking. The Galloway silhouettes play with folds and diminishing thicknesses, with each piece's spacious foundation giving rise to a light but daring structure. Armrests are bow-shaped and distinguished by their beautiful curve.
The Helston Coffee Table is also new to this year's assortment. This piece's distinctive, sculptural, and dynamic lines compliment couches and armchairs from previous Bentley Home collections. Available in two sizes, each pair of Helston tables may stand alone or as a pair and is equally lovely. The exterior frame of the table may be covered in leather or veneered in the collection's trademark wood veneers and lacquers. The table's top can be made of marble, leather, or wood. The variety of options matches those offered to Bentley Motors customers for customising the interiors of their vehicles.
The Ryde Ottoman is the first round pouffe offered by Bentley Home. It is a multipurpose item that works well in living areas, bedrooms, and offices. The exterior shell, coated in the collection's wood veneer, hugs the leather or fabric seat and is inspired by the classic Bentley diamond design. The design is an homage to flawless geometry and demonstrates the master craftspeople's ability to create intricately complex and customizable products.
The Havergate Cabinet and Sideboard presented a challenge to the designers at Bentley Motors and Bentley Home, who were tasked with combining harmony and lightness with volumes and voids. The outside construction of these pieces is clad in the collection's wood veneers or in leather, enabling each item to stand beautifully in the centre of a room or against a wall, since every aspect is attractive and well researched. Degrade Gun-Metal Grey or Champagne metal door embellishments contrast with the transparency of the glass shelves. The shading of the Havergate line is the result of laborious artistry and a sequence of hand-applied layers. A variety of hand-performed processes comprise the complicated lacquering procedure. A coating of varnish is initially put to the wood, followed by a layer of colour applied using an airbrush, before the craftsperson progressively pulls away from the wood to emphasise the colour gradient. The most important technical skill is then duplicating every shade element to ensure uniformity. Before the final polishing, four coats of varnish are used to give the items body, depth, and a solid look.
The diamond pattern engravings on the new Ramsey lighting fixtures were inspired by the interior quilting of Bentley automobiles. Ramsey Floor, Table, and Wall Lamps feature steel surfaces with either Gun-Metal Grey or Champagne finishes and Black Marquina or Calacatta marble bases. Each finish has distinctive qualities that provide a different kind of light: warm and reassuring or modern and vibrant. The lamps are handcrafted with Murano glass, and the lighting system is state-of-the-art to maximise surface illumination and provide even light distribution.
Bentley Motors, Bentley Home, and the designer Francesco Forcellini worked together to create the new Stirling mirror, which is a work of art in its own right. The mirror is influenced by the collection's trademark curvature, with rounded edges accentuating the intricate geometric carvings. By using laser technology to create diamond patterns, the sculpture is rendered three-dimensional. The mirror is available in fume or bronze and consists of a single sheet of glass, making it an artistic creation. Optionally, silver alloy may be produced by hand, in the style of mid-20th-century glassworks, which is today very unusual.
Bentley Home Atelier, Milan
The newly established Bentley Home Atelier at 36 Corso Venezia, Milan, is located in the colonnaded courtyard of the late 19th-century Palazzo Chiesa, among the lovely cross-vaulted ceilings and enormous stone staircase. In contrast to the building's surrounding neoclassical architecture, the Atelier is a 500-square-meter modern room.
The Atelier, adorned with stone, mirrors, and leather, is the ideal complement to the Bentley Home furniture line. Natural light penetrates the room and creates surprising reflections. The Atelier gives a view of the Milan skyline on one side and the mediaeval Palazzo on the other. The outcome is a progression of multisensory experiences and tactile appeal.
The one-of-a-kind Atelier embodies the spirit of the Bentley Home way of life: a place where luxury and personalization take form among the finest materials.
